Prem Ratan Dhan Payo : It’s a movie that would make even Ekta Kapoor and Aloknath pop a pill

The Bhai of Bollywood is back for the second time in the year reuniting with Rajshri Produtions and Sooraj Barjaya after successful hits like Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and Hum Saath Saath Hai, earlier in his career. With Salman and Sonam Kapoor in the leas roles, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is all glamorous, grand and rich, revolving around the lives of the members of a royal family and their problems.

Well, it’s evident that Rajshri has not changed a bit since they have started, the same family drama and grandeur with a one happy family ending. However after a long time any Rajshri movie has got so much attention and we all know why. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo begins with a surprisingly mellow entry of Salman in a Raamleela scene, which gives one a glimpse of the intolerable amount of nonsense is going to come up. As the 3 hour long journey progresses, one starts to feel that even though it is family drama, royal family politics, the movie has a tangy and spicy story, that can keep the viewers involved.

The first half, despite the infinite flaws such as improperly placed meaningless songs, overacting by a few of the side actors and Sonam Kapoor, well that goes on throughout the movie, manages to build up a climax point for the second half. The music throughout the movie is too much and pathetic to bear with and pops in just where you think that this cannot get any worse.

Despite a painful first half, one expects some interesting continuation to that main story which seemed tangy and spicy, which is somewhere left behind, but that is not it. Despite, there are less songs, there are innumerable meaningless scenes and emotional overflow through the second half. So in the end you realise, that some part of the story which was actually building your interest ends up in nothing admirable.

The casting of the team has its up’s and downs. Surprisingly, Armaan Kohli and Neil Nitin Mukesh have put up admirable performances, while our beauty pageant, Sonam Kapoor has some acting only towards the last 20 minutes of the movie. Not to mention, our leading man and a strong supporting role fro Anupam Kher are the only saving grace of this Titanic, which only the ruthless Box Office collection can save.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, could have been something nice, only if it were edited well and the number of songs were halved and spaced properly and not every 5 to 10 minutes. Yes, the movie does make you laugh at points and also gets interesting, but there are just too many factors to keep one involved in the movie. So in my opinion, if you have noting much to do or if you are a Salmaan fan, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo can be a possible road taken.

After watching Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, an Indian can never say that Yuvraj Singh is the best all rounder India has got, becauase now we have Salman Khan, who can do almost everything on and off screen.

My Rating – 2.0 /5.
