The past few weeks everyone has heard of the controversy surrounding Udta Punjab and the ban imposed by the Censor Board. Well despite all the force and fuss, the Shahid Kapoor starrer has finally managed to hit the theatres and well, it did deserve to be shown on the 70 mm screen. Directed by Ahishek Chaubey focussing on the terrible drug scenario of Punjab, the movie strikes hard on its message but slightly lacks the finesse of presentation.

Now, coming to the pros and cons: honestly I loved Udta Punjab, but again the movie misses out in major areas. Despite a heart touching story, well paced and surprisingly well supported by its music, Udta Punjab is too haphazard. Organization is the major woe of this cult film, it seems Mr.Chaubey and Sudip Sharma(writer) got too busy scripting the censor teasing scenes with all the cocaine snorting and abuses. In the 150minute ride, you see Alia popping up crying at the pitch of her voice, the adorable Punjabi rom-com between Daljit and Kareena and nevertheless, the power packed Shahid, which is entertaining but dull at times.

Music by Amit Trivedi is perfect in all aspects and will leave you buzzing with the tunes for quit some time. After movies like Airlift and Kapoor and Sons, Udta Punjab is one of those where the songs play a major role in carrying the film. Moving to the acting, everyone involved in the film seems has given more than a 100 percent to his/her role. With the main focus being on the 4 horsemen that drive the movie, supporting performances by Satish Kaushik, Harpreet and Prabhjyot Singh are the stand outs of this Censor Board teaser.

Udta Punjab definitely lives up to the expectations set by its amazing trailer and promotions and looks to mint money at the box office. The makers make no mistake in showcasing the plague that has hit the Land of Five rivers impressing upon the finest of details. The movie has the perfect entertainment package for ADULTS and is a must watch in Cinema Theatres and not on the torrent.

My Rating: 3.5/5
